Dominican Republic + Haiti Island
Over the past two decades, the Dominican Republic has transformed into a wonderful destination for tourists. There are many all-inclusive resorts on the island that provide everything a traveler needs: accommodations, recreation, dining and entertainment. The Dominican Republic shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti. Its capital, Santo Domingo, is the oldest capital city in the Western Hemisphere. Haiti is situated in the Caribbean and comprises the forested mountainous western end of the island of Hispaniola, which it shares with the Dominican Republic. Haiti's coastline is dotted with magnificent beaches, between which stretches lush subtropical vegetation, even covering the slopes which lead down to the shore. The modern world's first black-led republic, it boasts a unique culture and an incredible artistic tradition. The language, dance and music of the Haitian people reflect a syncopation between the spiritual and material worlds that shouldn't be missed.

Island of Martinique (windward islands)
Martinique has been called a little bit of France in the Caribbean. That's because while the island retains its Caribbean aura and traditions, it exudes the charms of its mother country. Annexed by France 1674, and still a region of the nation, Martinique offers attractions that are undoubtedly French. The Schoelcher Library in Fort-de-France, Martinique's capital city, was built for the Paris Exposition of 1889, then dismantled and shipped to Martinique piece by piece.

Island of Cuba
The largest island of the West Indies group, Cuba lies 90 miles south of Key West, Fla., at the entrance to the Gulf of Mexico. The south coast is washed by the Caribbean Sea, the north coast by the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. Since the early 1990s, Cuba has worked to upgrade its facilities. Throughout Cuba luxury hotels and beach resorts are going up and historical buildings are being renovated.

Island of Bermuda
In Bermuda, there's no mistaking that Britannia rules. Genteel, refined, understated and orderly, it's the perfect preserve for the reserved. The only racket you'll hear will be on the tennis courts, and swingers head for the golf course rather than the nightclub. While Bermuda is usually grouped with Caribbean islands, it's not in the Caribbean. Closer to North Carolina (warm ocean currents give Bermuda its great climate), this hook-shaped strip of mini islands totals just 21 square miles.

Island of Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico welcomes visitors with its warm, mildly tropical climate and great beaches. With little seasonal change, outdoor lovers will find much to do on the Atlantic side and the Caribbean. About 1,000 miles southeast of Miami, Puerto Rico lies between Hispaniola and the British Virgin Islands, and is the easternmost - and smallest - of the four major islands of the Greater Antilles. The other three are Cuba, Jamaica and Hispaniola (the latter is home to two nations, Haiti and the Dominican Republic).
